Q1: I bowhunt and rifle hunt in Colorado. I am looking at the Steiner 8X30 predater and the 8X30 military binos. Does the CAT system work and is it worth the extra money? Also is the a harness sytem available for these binos?
A: Yes, the Steiner Color Adjusted Transmission system really works. The optical coatings are specially formulated to enhance the colors of game animals and birds and mute the colors of underbrush. I sold a pair of predators to a fellow who hunts in Africa, and his comments ranged from "amazing" to "fantastic." In our opinion, CAT is worth the extra $50, but binoculars are a highly personal thing, so you may disagree. If you do, you can just return them within 90 days for a refund or exchange.
